GRP — glass reinforced plastic, usually just called fibreglass — is a flat roof covering formed in place as a continuous layer over a suitable deck, with the edges and upstands finished in matching trims and detailing.
We both install fibreglass roofs and repair existing ones. Whether GRP is the right answer for a particular roof depends on the deck underneath, the falls, the junctions and how the roof is used, which is why we look at the existing structure before recommending anything.

How we approach the job
1.Assess what is already there
Before any new covering is discussed we check the deck, the falls and the condition of the structure. A new surface laid over a soft or poorly draining deck will not perform.
2.Get the details right
Most flat roof failures happen at the edges — upstands, abutments, outlets and trims — rather than in the open field of the roof, so that is where the care goes.
3.Repair where a repair will hold
Localised splits and damaged areas in an otherwise sound fibreglass roof can usually be made good. Where the covering has failed widely or the deck below is wet, recovering is the honest recommendation.
4.Clear quotation before starting
Scope, access and what is included are set out in writing first.
Where GRP suits, and where it may not
Fibreglass is commonly used on smaller domestic flat areas — extensions, garages, porches, dormer tops and balcony areas. It is not automatically the right choice everywhere: the deck, the falls, the surrounding details and the access all affect whether it is appropriate or whether another covering makes more sense.
Drainage matters more than the material
Water that cannot get off a flat roof will find weaknesses in any covering. Where a roof is holding water, we look at the falls and the outlets as part of the job rather than simply laying a new surface over the same problem.

What is GRP roofing?
GRP stands for glass reinforced plastic. It is a flat roof covering formed on site over a prepared deck as one continuous layer, with the upstands and edges finished in matching trims.
Can a damaged fibreglass roof be repaired?
Usually. Splits, impact damage and localised failures in an otherwise sound roof can normally be repaired. Widespread failure, or a wet deck underneath, generally points to recovering instead.
Is GRP suitable for every flat roof?
No. It suits many smaller domestic flat roofs, but the deck condition, falls, junctions and how the roof is used all matter. We assess the roof before recommending a covering.
Can you replace a felt roof with fibreglass?
Often, yes, though the existing covering normally has to come off so the deck can be checked and prepared. We confirm that on inspection rather than in advance.
Can you walk on a fibreglass roof?
Light maintenance access is generally fine, but regular foot traffic needs to be allowed for in how the roof is finished. Tell us if the area will be walked on and we will factor it in.
