Chimney Repairs in Dublin
Damage around a chimney is one of the most frequent causes of damp inside a Dublin home. The stack is exposed on every side, and the junction where it passes through the roof has to be weathered correctly or rain finds its way in.
Our work here is roofing work: the flashing, the junction with the covering, deteriorated mortar and the slates or tiles around the stack.

Signs of a chimney-related problem
- Damp or staining on a chimney breast inside the house
- Water ingress in the room or attic directly around the stack
- Flashing that has lifted, split or pulled away from the brickwork
- Crumbling or missing mortar between bricks
- Storm-related damage to the stack or the coverings around it
- Slipped or broken slates and tiles on the slope beside the chimney
How we approach the job
1.Check the stack and the junction together
Flashing, mortar, the surrounding coverings and the roof junction are assessed as one. Repairing one element and ignoring the others often leaves the leak in place.
2.Renew the weathering
Where flashing has failed, it is renewed and properly fixed rather than sealed over, so the junction sheds water as intended.
3.Repair the surrounding roof
Damaged slates or tiles beside the stack are replaced at the same time, while access is already in place.
4.Say when it is beyond roofing work
If a stack appears structurally unsafe — leaning, badly cracked or unstable — we will tell you that further specialist assessment may be necessary rather than carry on regardless.
Why chimney damp is often misdiagnosed
Damp on a chimney breast is regularly treated as a plastering or condensation issue when rain entering at the stack or the flashing is the real cause. Internal treatments do nothing if water is still getting in above.

Most chimney work needs scaffolding to be carried out safely and to a decent standard. That is included in the quotation rather than added later.

FAQ
Chimney Repairs — common questions
Can damaged flashing cause a chimney leak?
Yes, and it is one of the most common causes. The flashing weathers the junction between the stack and the roof, so once it lifts or splits, water has a direct route in.
Why is there damp around my chimney breast?
Frequently because rain is entering at the stack — through failed flashing, eroded mortar or the surrounding coverings — and tracking down inside the brickwork.
Do you work on chimneys that are no longer used?
Yes. Disused stacks still have to keep water out, and the flashing and junction around them are repaired in the same way.
What if my chimney looks unsafe?
Tell us when you call. Where a stack appears structurally unsound, further specialist assessment may be needed before roofing repairs are appropriate.
Can the flashing be renewed at the same time?
Usually it makes sense to, since access is already in place and stack and flashing problems are closely related.
