Liquid Roofing & Roof Waterproofing in Dublin
Liquid roofing means waterproofing a roof with a coating applied wet, usually reinforced with a matting layer, which cures in place into a continuous seamless membrane. Because it is applied by brush and roller, it follows the shape of whatever is underneath — upstands, kerbs, pipe penetrations, outlets and awkward junctions included.
That makes it useful on roofs where sheet systems are hard to detail neatly, and on roofs where stripping the existing covering would be disruptive. It is not a coating that can simply be poured over any failing roof: the existing surface has to be assessed, sound, dry and properly prepared first, and sometimes it will not be suitable at all.

How liquid-applied roofing is carried out
1.Assess the existing roof honestly
The substrate is checked for moisture, adhesion, movement and general condition. A coating over a wet deck or a delaminating covering traps the problem underneath, and we will say so rather than take the easier job.
2.Preparation is most of the work
Cleaning, drying, removing loose material, cutting out blisters, making good the deck and priming where required. How well a liquid system performs depends more on this stage than on the coating itself.
3.Reinforce the details
Upstands, corners, outlets and penetrations are treated as part of the membrane, with reinforcement worked into the wet coating so the finish is continuous rather than stopping short at the tricky parts.
4.Confirm the water gets away
Falls, outlets and gutters are checked and cleared. A seamless coating over standing water and a blocked outlet is still a roof holding water.
How liquid systems work
The coating is applied wet in layers, normally with a reinforcing fleece or matting embedded between coats, and cures to form one continuous membrane bonded to the surface below. Because there are no laps or seams, the weak points that usually cause flat-roof leaks are dealt with as part of the same membrane. Curing depends on temperature and moisture, so the work needs a suitable dry weather window — it is planned work, not something done in the rain.
Existing roof condition and preparation
Liquid systems are not universally compatible with every roof. Trapped moisture in the deck or insulation, poor adhesion, unstable or delaminating coverings, heavy contamination, and active movement all affect whether coating is appropriate. Where the substrate is failing, the right answer may be to strip and re-cover instead. We check before recommending, and if the roof is not a candidate we tell you.
Where liquid roofing is often the practical choice
Roofs cut up by rooflights, pipework, plant, parapets or several changes of level, where a sheet system would need a lot of cut joints. Refurbishment of a sound but tired covering where stripping would be disruptive or expensive. Balconies, walkways and parapet gutters, where continuity around awkward geometry matters more than anything else.
Drainage still decides the outcome
A seamless membrane does not remove the need for the roof to shed water. Falls, outlet size and position, blocked or undersized rainwater goods and anything discharging onto the roof are all reviewed. Long-standing ponding is a design or drainage issue and gets addressed rather than coated over.
Liquid roofing compared with other flat-roof systems
Against felt, liquid avoids laps and can be taken around complex details in one continuous run. Against GRP fibreglass, both cure into a seamless finish; fibreglass gives a harder, more traffic-resistant laminate, while liquid systems are generally more forgiving to apply over existing surfaces and awkward shapes. Against EPDM, a rubber sheet is quick and economical on simple open roofs, whereas liquid tends to win where the roof is complicated. Which is right depends on the roof rather than on a favourite product.

Will a liquid coating fix a roof that is already failing?
Not on its own. If water has got into the deck or insulation, or the existing covering is breaking up, coating over it traps the problem. In that situation stripping and re-covering is usually the sounder route, and we will say so.
