Roof Valley Repairs in Dublin
The valley is the channel where two roof slopes meet, and it carries far more water than the rest of the roof around it. That concentration of water, plus the leaves and grit that collect there, is why valleys are one of the most common places a Dublin roof starts to let water in.
Valleys are not all built the same way. Some are lined, some are formed in the covering itself, and the condition of the slates or tiles running into the valley matters as much as the channel. We look at all of it before saying what the repair should be.

How we approach the job
1.Confirm the valley is actually the source
A stain inside rarely sits directly under the defect. We work from the internal evidence back up to the roof, because water entering at a valley can run a long way along a batten or rafter first.
2.Clear and examine the channel
Where debris is part of the problem, clearing it lets us see the condition of the lining and the laps properly rather than guessing.
3.Check both slopes, not just the channel
Cut slates, tile edges and any flashing running into the valley are inspected at the same time, as these are often where water is getting past.
4.Repair to the extent that is needed
A short defective section can often be dealt with on its own. Where a lining has failed along its length, we will say so and quote for the valley rather than patch it twice.
Localised repair or a full valley?
An isolated split, a few damaged slates at the edge or a blockage is normally a contained repair. Where the lining is deteriorated over most of its length, or the same valley has leaked repeatedly, renewing the valley is usually the more sensible option — it means opening up the slates or tiles either side and reforming the detail.
Why valleys block
Valleys sit below the general run of the roof, so leaves from nearby trees, moss washed off the slopes and general grit all end up there. Once the channel holds water instead of moving it, water can back up under the coverings at the edges.

Roof Valley Repairs — common questions
Why is my roof valley leaking?
Usually because the lining has split, corroded or opened at a lap, because slates or tiles at the valley edge have slipped or cracked, or because debris is holding water in the channel long enough for it to back up under the covering.
Can a leaking roof valley be repaired?
Often, yes. Isolated damage and edge defects are normally repairable. A lining that has deteriorated along most of its length is usually better renewed than patched.
Can a blocked valley cause roof leaks?
It can. When a valley cannot drain freely, water sits and can be driven sideways under the slates or tiles at the edges, particularly in heavy rain and wind.
The damp patch is nowhere near the valley — could it still be the valley?
Yes. Water entering at a valley frequently runs along felt, battens or a rafter before it appears inside, so the stain can be several metres from the actual defect.
Do you need scaffolding to repair a valley?
It depends on the height, pitch and access. We confirm what is needed before quoting so the access cost is included rather than added later.
